The Melrose/Wakefield Monthly Winter Farmers Market will hold its final market day of the season on Sunday April 19, 2015 from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Memorial Hall, 590 Main St in Melrose.
Although also in the midst of preparing for their respective summer farmers markets, Co-Winter Market Managers Cindy Chabut (Melrose) and Wendy Dennis (Wakefield) are excited about this final winter market day.
“We decided to change the pace a bit with the music this month.” said Chabot. “It’s still acoustic and old-timey, but we will have fiddler Cathy Mason and possible guest musicians providing the background music in April.”
“I am thrilled that the café seating on the stage has taken off,” added Dennis. “It really gives that community feel to the event. Be sure to try the Ethiopian food and clam chowder. Plus the coffee. It’s the best!”
Portrait artist Anita Roy Dobbs will be back again this month offering lovely pencil sketch portraits created on the spot. You will find her in the upper level foyer with pencil in hand.
Holly Pierce will also be on hand up in the second floor level to present a cooking demonstration using produce and food items that she selects from the vendors that morning. With a focus on quick, easy, and delicious, she’ll inspire you to try her recipes and maybe even create your own.
The market expects most of the vendors to be on hand with the farmers bringing lots of fresh spring greens their roots cellar vegetables, perhaps some potted herbs, fine meats, poultry and eggs, as well as lovely cheeses. Shoppers will also be able to purchase fresh fish and locally produced hard cider, dips, spreads, sweet and savory preserves, baked goods, seasoning mixes, teas, cheesecake, hand crafted candy, root and ginger beers, soaps, candles, and other handmade crafts.

Beverages: Pour Man’s Coffee, Tower Root Beer, Far From the Tree Cider, and Down East Cider.
Artisans: Halls Sugar Scrubs, Kittredge Candles, Mary Ellen Crafts, Sarah’s Originals, and Wicked Good Soap.
Along with credit and debit cards via our Market Bucks system, the Winter Market also welcomes SNAP/EBT transactions in exchange for Market Bucks. The Winter Market will match SNAP/EBT purchases up to $5 per visit so all of our neighbors can afford to eat healthy local foods. Just stop by the Market Manager Table.
