Less than three weeks stand between us and Opening Day at the Wakefield Farmers Market, and excitement is building everywhere you turn. Our inboxes are overflowing, vendors are eagerly preparing for the season ahead, and the entire market team is counting down the days until Hall Park fills once again with fresh produce, handcrafted goods, music, laughter, and community.

This year’s season is shaping up to be one of our most vibrant yet, with more than 75 farm, food, and artisan vendors joining us throughout the season. Add in ten musical acts, 11 nonprofit organizations, Curious Creatures visits, a balloon artist, face painting, and so much more, and Saturdays at the lake are going to feel more magical than ever.
Behind the scenes, however, there’s an incredible amount of work happening to bring Opening Day to life.
Our team is busy finalizing permits and paperwork, our SNAP Coordinator is preparing for another season of our SNAP Match Program, our Board members are lending support wherever needed, and our longtime volunteers are already stepping up, ready to help guide vendors through the organized chaos of market morning setup.
And honestly? Opening Day always feels a little magical.
There’s anticipation in the air from the moment the first tent goes up. The morning is filled with hugs, laughter, reunions, “Wait, where do I set up again?” and endless “Oh my gosh, how have you been?” moments. It’s chaotic in the very best way. After years of building this market together, the sense of community that exists at Hall Park is something truly special, and we cannot wait to welcome everyone back for another season.
But while vendors, musicians, and customers often take center stage, there’s another group that quietly helps keep the market running smoothly every single Saturday:

While the Wakefield Farmers Market may feel like a bustling weekly event, we are still a nonprofit organization with a mission rooted deeply in community. We strive to provide access to fresh, locally grown food and sustainably made artisanal goods while supporting small farms, small batch makers, and local entrepreneurs.
More than that, we aim to create a welcoming space where neighbors connect, families gather, and the community comes together around local food, music, and shared experiences.
And none of it would be possible without volunteers. It truly takes a village.
From helping at the Market Tent to assisting vendors during setup, answering questions for visitors, supporting our SNAP Match Program, or jumping in during end-of-day cleanup to help keep beautiful Hall Park pristine, our volunteers are an essential part of what makes the market feel warm, welcoming, and organized week after week.
Whether you can volunteer for an entire morning or simply lend a hand for 30 minutes at the end of the day, every bit of support makes a meaningful difference.
No matter how you spend your Saturdays: shopping the market, walking the lake, catching up with friends, listening to music, supporting local businesses, or volunteering alongside us, we are endlessly grateful for this incredible community and the people who continue to show up for one another year after year.
If you’re interested in volunteering this season, we’d love to have you join us. Head over to our Volunteer Page to learn more and sign up.
And either way, we cannot wait to see you at Hall Park for Opening Day on June 13 from 9 AM–1 PM.
